London - Systems Engineer
Specific Media is the world's largest independent online advertising network with office locations in the US, UK, Germany, France, Denmark and Norway. We are seeking a Systems Engineer to join our operations team.
Position Summary:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Listed below are responsibilities, experience, knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to effectively fill the Systems Manager position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Includes the following but other duties may be assigned.
- Deal with incidents as they arise
- Proactively seek ways to fix problems
- Deal with ad-hoc work requests
- Work on projects to enhance or grow the Specific Media technical environment
- Work with developers and other company staff to improve the company's products
Competencies:

Education and/or Experience:
- 5yrs+ experience of supporting IT infrastructures
- Demonstrable problem solving skills
- On-call experience
Technical skills:
- Linux
- Perl/BASH scripting
- Basic working knowledge of Java
- Automated monitoring systems (Nagios or similar)
- Automated software deployment via source control systems (SVN, CVS or similar)
- Automated configuration systems (puppet, cfengine or similar)
- Virtualisation experience with VMware, Xen or similar
- Networking experience including firewalls, load balancers and enterprise grade switches
- Database administration (MySQL or similar)
- Knowledge of:
- Co-located data centre operations
- WAN Networking and Firewall administration
- Load balancer and enterprise/data centre switch administration
- x86 hardware deployment and maintenance
- Linux (or UNIX) administration, gained in a large-scale environment
- Deployment and support of web applications based on Apache and Java
- MySQL administration
- Monitoring systems
Department:
Engineering - Reports to Enterprise Operations Manager
Hours:
The normal week of work is Monday through Friday. The basic day of work for full-time employees is eight hours, exclusive of lunch hour. On-call hours will be required as part of the role.
Travel:
Short duration European and world wide travel will be required as part of the role.
