London - Senior Media Buyer

Specific Media is the world's largest independent online advertising network with office locations in the US, UK, Germany, France, Denmark, Norway and Sweden. We are seeking a seasoned Senior Media Buying professional for an Advertising Sales House in London.


Position Summary:

Senior Media Buyers are responsible for buying inventory for our network from the existing client base. You must ensure these buys are implemented to their optimum potential in terms of rates/performance as well as developing a rapport with the client in order to consolidate the existing relationship and to ensure the contact feels they are receiving the highest level of service possible.

Working as part of the Media Buying team you will need to be a team player, but proactive in identifying areas of progression with your own accounts and self-sufficient in implementing necessary improvements. Due to your experience level, you will be expected to work more independently from your director within the specifications of your role.

The role requires exceptional account management ability with exposure to key decision makers within premium Publishers. The right candidate will have a complete understanding of the media marketplace and how this relates to media planning and advertising objectives. In addition to being highly self-motivated, candidates will be well organised with a proactive approach to all aspects of the role. It is imperative that candidates are outgoing and comfortable communicating with individuals at all levels of an organisation.


Account Management:

You will have responsibility for ensuring accounts are managed as follows:

  • Ability to implement buying strategy and identify new business opportunities from current accounts
  • Proactively negotiate and plan monthly/quarterly bookings to ensure most competitive rates/performance and value to the network
  • Implement bookings into internal interfaces
  • Daily monitoring of booking delivery and addressing any problems in this area with clients
  • Constant analysis and assessment of performance and identifying areas and solutions for improvement
  • Regularly updating and documenting changes in account contacts, information and opportunities within internal interfaces
  • Manage billing queries between the client and internal contact
  • Prepare weekly account status reports
  • Demonstrate excellent negotiation skills
  • Ability to make insightful analysis of publisher performance
  • Dynamic presentation skills
  • Ability to manage any problem areas of client relationships to effectively resolve these and move the account forward positively
  • Ongoing thorough analysis of delivery and quick-to-action resolutions
  • Continuous gathering of industry/competitor information from accounts to allow us to offer competitive selling points

Understanding Our Clients' Business:
  • Develop the ability to assess and summarise market trends
  • Develop an understanding of online consumer behaviour

Interpreting the Data:
  • Knowledge of basic market figures and dynamics
  • Ability to manipulate and utilize data to ensure effective negotiating and buying
  • Keep up-to-date on future editorial/re-design changes to your accounts and assess any influences this might have on current accounts value
  • Focus on 'bigger picture' for all accounts in terms of developments at the 'parent' brand level to ensure your development strategy for the account reflects these

Financial Effectiveness:
  • Your director is responsible for setting COG's targets for the team which you will be required to meet with your accounts
  • Ability to draw on your personal skills for determining negotiation points is key

Competencies:

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Ability to identify and develop initiatives is key for your role as you will have sole responsibility for these accounts

  • Adopt 'the Specific Media attitude' and foster it in all areas of your position
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong internal relationships with everyone: Account Management, Delivery, Trafficking, Media Buying, Technology, European offices, Management, Finance, etc.
  • Possess the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing
  • Ability to apply strong problem solving skills via multiple communication channels
  • Strong presentation skills in both written proposals and presentations

Education and/or Experience:
  • This individual will have had at least 2 years solid media buying experience, preferably within the online market place

Technical skills:
  • Know how to turn raw data into presentable documents
  • Know how to access relevant market information

Time and Resource Management:
  • Time management is essential – Must possess the ability to prioritise effectively by determining the importance and urgency of assigned tasks
  • Must possess the ability to properly gauge and balance workload, utilizing available resources (directors, other departments) as well as external data tools (comScore, Nielsen, Alexa.com) when necessary to achieve your objectives
